Well, if nothing else, this chapter made me go back and reread Scripture to see what It said and compare it with what James said....
I liked his take on things though....
just a few things Ive noticed in the Scripture.... God told Adam not to eat from the tree, and then He made Eve, it never records in Scripture Him telling Eve not to eat from the 2 trees - maybe He expected Adam to do this b/c he was to be the head of their relationship.... but it is obvious that Adam did this b/c she tells the serpent "the rules" when he asks about them.... although Ive never read it in this light, but when he asked her "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" (Gen. 3:1, NIV), what if he was asking her if God told HER these rules or did He just tell Adam - you know, he never really lied to Eve, just twisted things around..... and also if you notice, nothing happened after Eve ate the fruit - it was only after Adam did.... now, Im not saying Eve wasnt accountable or at fault, just that Ive never really looked at it this way before...
also, found it odd/neat that it doesnt say that Adam named Eve until after all the betrayal and punishment were over and dealt with, and even then, he gave her a really sweet name, not one of blame....
so maybe (at least this part of) the Bible wasnt written by a chauvenist male as is sometimes thought...

Addie I, too, find it interesting that it was Eve who was deceived (probably because she didn't get the message directly from God) and Adam "was not deceived" (1 Tim 2:14). His sin was deliberate, wicked, and inexcusable. In fact, it was not by Eve's sin, but by Adam's that "sin entered into the world, and death by sin."
Great thoughts, Addie. Thanks for sharing.

I, too, enjoyed your thoughts on this chapter, Addie. I've never thought of Eve being named after all this.

I'm with Pilot Mom AND Andrea - I never noticed either of these two issues before but you're right. It WASN'T Eve that brought the sin into the world...she just brought the knowledge. Adam was the one that broke the trust with God. It should be Adam standing in all those commercials where Eve is holding an apple and they are blaming her for everything!

Oh dear, you guys... now you know darn well they were in it together, no matter who ate what first, or who gave what to whom... Eve could have said to the snake... "Let me check this out with God and get back to you." Adam could have said "Now Eve, I'm not taking a bite of that, no matter how many times you withhold sex." But they didn't.
God, on the other hand, could also have reacted differently. How come wenever mention that?
