An Intense Moment in the Desert
the first thing that struck me was when the devil took Jesus to a high mountain and said "All this I will give you, if you will bow down and worship me." This is the first time I have read that and laughed - it just seemed so ridiculous to me at first glance, that the devil would even say something to God, the one who cast him out of heaven....
this lesson really brought back images from The Passion - of the devil coming back to Jesus at a "more opportune time"... I see him whispering in Gethsemane, and even more so, I see him moving through the crowds as Christ is being beaten... Jesus knowing the whole time that He had a choice in His suffering....
What I get out of this lesson is what Ive always gotten out of it... I need to memorize more Scripture, but beyond that I need to know the context of it... the devil knows the Scripture - much better than I, and he knows how to twist it.... if I dont know it and its context, then how am I supposed to know its being twisted... reminds me of what I tell the youth sometimes...
As Christians, we are in Spiritual warfare.... and yes, with God on your side, you can win over the devil.... but if you store up weapons to use (ie: memorize Scripture), how much easier would it be to win the war, how many fewer scars would you obtain... you can only use the weapons that you store up...

I struggle with this area too, Addie. Sometimes I have such a difficult time remembering it word perfect. I don't remember having the problem when I was younger. But, memory or not, it is still no excuse not to tuck it away in my mind and heart. If I am faithful to do that, then He will be faithful to help me to recall it when the time comes and it is needed!

yes - I have faith that just even if I dont recall it the next week, that the Scripture I memorized is still important b/c God can call it up out of my memory anytime He wants
right now, Im learning one verse a week - Im doing it alphabetically (the first word of the Scripture for the first week started with an A, and so on)... that is really helping me to remember last week's as well....
and then on March 1st, I start the one a day thing.... its kind of exciting... :)
