Venom
***so we ARE on "VENOM"...well I guess I just did catch up by doing both today...sorry?
“…ever since Adam and Eve’s fatal choice, the jargon of temptation has been our natural tongue and the dialect of love has been a foreign language.”
To me this quote encapsulates the whole chapter. I absolute love his poem “Dr. Seuss Meets Mr. Temptation”! I love Dr. Seuss.
Not ironically, again God has been speaking to me specifically about our enemy this past week. Over at the emergent women blogroll there was a lengthy discussion about “Evil and Sin”, where this was discussed.
One of the more troubling attributes for me with the “Emergent Movement” and perhaps more generally speaking; the POSTMODERNISM Movement, is the desire (of some) to de-rank Satan by not naming him out of fear of demons and Satan, and worse yet (to me) is only recognizing that evil exists but not recognizing he has a name and a league of demons to help do his work.
It’s interesting that we utilize a technique in war, business, even FOOTBALL, but not in our own spiritual battle: “Know your enemy!” The better we know what we’re up against, the sooner we will learn how to defeat them/him.
To me, this translates to mean I not only accept that he exists, ON EARTH, but I also recognize Satan’s role and goal is to steal, kill, and destroy. My best defense against him is knowing truth about him, using God’s truth spoken against him, and to join an “army” willing to fight with me in this battle.

Kim, I agree we need to know our enemy...to be aware that he is lurking and his greatest desire is to cause us to fall away. To not even be able to say his name is just silly to me (as some of those women were saying). Because, "greater is He that is in you than he that is without." I have no need to go around being afraid; I have Jesus in me! And there is NOTHING more powerful than Christ's Power!
If we are not to understand our enemy and what to do when we encounter him then why on earth does God's Word teach us of his different appearances and why spend time on Eph 6 telling us about warfare and the weapons we have at our disposal.
So, after all I said above, I could just say, "I agree with you, Kim!" ;)

I agree with both of you. You have to be able to name your enemy! Anytime my life starts going to the "dark" side I stand right up and say it, "Get behind me, Satan!" and almost instantly, I am calmed by that thought of him having to stand down from all he was envisioning.
