Christian Chapter Chat

echoes

“Year after year they waited, but the promised one didn’t arrive.”

As I read this sentence in the chapter I began to think about the throngs of people who continue to WAIT for Jesus to return. I began to think of the hope in which these people put their ‘eternal future’ and the COST for them on earth.

The final poem rang so true to what I hear almost daily from others and what I felt for so long as I ‘waited’ for the second coming of Christ.

“When will you arrive and show me the way out of this maze of myself? I’m feeling more and more lost every moment I’m here.”

The thing that pulled me from this splintered state was God’s reminder that He created us with a purpose and a plan (this side of heaven), laid out long before I came to be, and that we are here for ‘such a time as this’.

I believe much of the mystery of God is lost to Christians in the desire to reach eternity. I believe a very big part of our life on earth is not only to fulfill this purpose and plan, but to get to know our creator and to seek after Him as He seeks after us.

We are called to truly live in a ‘marriage’ with God through Christ and grow that relationship everyday while we are here on earth. I know sometimes I am lured by other ‘lovers’ but ultimately I recognize whose ‘bride’ I am and that is where my heart is found.

  • I totally understand what you're saying, Andrea. I'm always shocked at how many Christians cross the line of faith and then stand there for the rest of their lives. What is THAT all about? How can you realize that there really IS a creator and then not go running towards Him for the rest of your life???

  • Maybe because the waiting is so painful and mysterious... because the promise is just that... a promise. The allurement of a lesser but present gratification takes over.

  • I'd love to take credit for this post...but heyJules, I think your comment is for Kim :-)

Kim, I totally relate to how we tend to lose sight of the mystery in our very purpose-driven lives...and miss the romancing of a God whose very love for us is a mystery.

So true! And, by doing exactly that we bring Him glory!

  • I got tripped up on that line about Him never coming.... He DID come, whether people missed it or not, doesnt change the fact that He did come, so I dont really care for how James worded that as if it was a fact or something....

    great post though

  • Yes, Kim...I'm sorry...got my "colors" mixed up! :-)

Addie, I agree with what you said. That line tripped me up too.

  • I took that line to mean there was a long period of time before "the promised Savior" came...and many of those who had presumably put their full faith in that never saw it on earth.
