Blood
I rather liked this chapter. It was very thought-provoking.
Here's what stood out for me:
After the harmony was shattered and Adam and Eve had to leave Eden, Eve had two sons. But the divine image God had imprinted on humanity's soul had become marred forever. The boys resembled their father more than their Father.
That's me as well, marred and sinful. And while I've never killed anyone, physically, I must keep in mind the words of Jesus:
"You have heard that the ancients were told, `YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER' and `Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.' But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court;"
How many, many times I've been guilty of anger, but still thought myself 'better' than those who've committed murder. When I really take the time to examine my life, take a whiff of my own inner cesspool, if you will, then I must admit my depravity runs deep. I'm not a sinner because I sin; I sin because I'm a sinner. My sinful nature is embedded in the core of my soul, as was Cain's.
"But for the grace of God go I" is more than a cliche.' God, in His wisdom and for purposes known only to Him, sees fit to prevent me from being as evil as I could be, left on my own. That is an overwhelming thought. Thank you, Lord, for continuously interrupting my life.

And isn't that one of the biggest turn-offs for those who don't know Jesus? How many times do they sense that we think we're 'better'.
No wonder our human pride is so abhorrent to God. Because it is but for His grace that we experience His blessing in our lives.
Great post, Gayla.
