echoes

"And each promise, each prediction, each prophesy shed more light and more mystery on this figure..."

That's the very problem. Everything God promises, does, says, wills... seems to be shrouded in some complicated upside-down impenetrable mystery. He came. The promise was fulfilled. Except nobody, except a straggley few, recognized him. How could we? He was speaking blasphemy a lot of the time, lunacy the rest. The authorities recognized only that he was trouble with a capital T, and made swift work to kill him. Crucified. Dead. Buried. End of trouble with the capital T.

But there were echoes. A few of his crazy disciples cooked up the story that he had risen from the grave and the rest is history. The rest is more mystery. The Holy Spirit, that spirit-God comforter, moves through our ranks today. And when the spirit speaks, only a straggley few can recognize The Voice. Mystery.

  • I think one of the most compelling things that led me to cross the line of faith was when I read somewhere that people living back then didn't question that He had actually risen because so many of them had seen Him after He was put to death. I started going through the bible and sure enough - other than Thomas - even though He looked different than before - they just KNEW it was Him.

I'm so glad I know that now, too!

  • I still feel a bit like Thomas, myself...I pray my heart will recognize what my eyes don't.
