An Incredible Moment In a Storm
Well, the timing was impeccable, as God’s always is. Yesterday evening, a huge storm blew up out of nowhere. It was sunny and warm about an hour or two before the main of the storm hit. But when it did – watch out. Heavy rain. Hail. Strong winds. Power outages. Chaos. Our company (where my mother and I work) said we could leave, but we would have to make the time up – how generous. So I was just planning on staying in the dark and just doing nothing. That is, until my grandmother called…
The whole roof had blown off her house. My sister and 18 month old baby were there with her, but she couldn’t reach my grandfather who had gone to a neighboring town for something. So my mother and I rushed out of work. By the time, we got there, my grandfather was had arrived. Things weren’t as bad as first thought… Yes, the whole metal roof was gone, but the house was not totally exposed to the rain. There were leaks everywhere. The whole ceiling will also need to be replaced. But no one was hurt – I don’t even think my baby knew that there was anything wrong – faith of a child, I guess.
It was a mini family reunion. My grandparents. Both their daughters. Both my mom’s daughters. My son and husband. My grandmother cooked dinner. We talked, watched tv, and read funny emails. It was actually a good time.
The Sea of Galilee is known for storms that come up suddenly and violently. Huge storms that can ruin a boat. But what gets me is that some of these disciples were fisherman. Surely, they had encountered storms before. But this one must have been crazy to scare them enough to ask Jesus if He cared that they were going to die. But Jesus, as always, takes hold of the situation, and then uses it to teach His disciples.
I often have to remind myself that God is in control. No matter what. It doesn’t matter if I think He is asleep and doing nothing, He is still in control. All that He asks is that I have just a little bit of faith and trust. He only wants the best for me,and I must claim that.
Ive heard it said that “Sometimes God calms the storm, and other times, He calms His child.”

Addie, what a storm! I really like how the sunshine came out in the end...having a mini family reunion planned by the Lord is the very best! :)
I've heard that same saying, too, about God calming the storm and other times His child. I like it.
I'm glad your grandmother's house wasn't any worse.

I'm with you, Addie, about having to remind myself that God is in control. And I wrestle with the tension between letting things all play out or intervening because I think it's God's will. Tough choices sometimes. Blessings on your family...

I'm so glad everything was fine at your Grandmother's house! Something bad turned into something good - a family reunited. Love the way God works!
And I'm with you...those crazy fishermen! Had they never been in a storm before? Oh well - I'm sure back then they didn't have all the amenities on boats that we have now. No sonar, no life vests, no radio, no Coast guard. Okay, I'm willing to cut them a break. : )
